It’s always a great idea to register a URL that matches the title of your book as soon as you settle on your title. So, for example, if your book is titled Passion Is the Way, you could purchase the URL passionistheway.com through a website-hosting company, such as bluehost.com. If the desired URL isn’t available, you could add “book” to the end (passionisthewaybook.com) or you could add hyphens (passion-is-the-way.com). You may need to get a little creative to find something that works and doesn’t deviate too much from your title.

Also register a URL in your name, particularly if you plan to publish more than one book. In fact, even with just one book to your name, you may want your author site to be the main landing site and have your book URL redirected to a page on your author site that features the book.

If you’re not savvy when it comes to building a website, you’ll want to hire a web designer to do this for you. At the very least, your website should feature:

  • Your book
  • Marketing copy associated with the book
  • Your author bio
  • Information on how to purchase the book or when the book will be available.
  • Links to your social media pages.

Your website should feature all the above content for all your titles and can be enhanced with updates about your upcoming works as well as free giveaways to entice people to sign up for your mailing list. Moreover, this can be your opportunity to start blogging and get people interested in what you have to say.

Consider visiting the websites of your favorite authors to get inspired. There’s lots you can do with a website, so use your imagination to create a destination that will make people want to know more and click on that “buy now” button.
