When you publish with KDP or IngramSpark, they make it relatively simple to keep track of your book sales, create spreadsheets, and monitor the peaks and valleys in online retail activity. You can use these tools to track seasonal sales or see the short-term effects of e-mail blasts, social-media campaigns, or other advertising or promotional endeavors. Both platforms have convenient “help” screens and pop-up prompts to assist you in tailoring your reports to your precise needs. Here are the basics to get you started:

Amazon KDP

  1. Sign in to your KDP account.
  2. At the top, near the KDP logo, click on “Reports.”
  3. This brings you to your “Sales Dashboard” tab. This page can display recent general or specific sales activity, depending on the options selected above the graphs. You can choose to view the activity of a specific Amazon marketplace, book format, author, title, and date range.
    • The “Historical” tab gives previous information regarding sales activity and can go back as far as the book’s initial publication, again depending on the options selected above the graphs (marketplace, author, title, and date range).
      • The “Month-to-Date” tab gives a quick overview of the current or previous month by marketplace and book format.
      • The “Payments” tab shows the history of royalties that have been paid to your account for ALL titles and authors under your KDP account.
      • The “Pre-orders,” “Promotions,” and “Ad Campaign” tabs will only show activity if you have utilized these options through KDP.
      • “Prior Months’ Royalties” simply gives a snapshot of the prior month’s earned payments for all books/authors as far back as the first book’s publication month.

IngramSpark

  1. Sign in to your IngramSpark account.
  2. On the left navigation bar, click on “Reports.” This expands the setting to “Ebook Sales,” “Print Sales,” “Publisher Compensation,” “Unpaid Invoices Due,” “Billing Statement,” “Invoices,” “Transaction History,” and “Pre-orders.” Each of these categories requires specific information to generate the report desired. Be sure you select the correct options to get the report you need.
  3. Navigate to the desired subcategory and fill in the requested information. Depending on the selection, you may be required to enter the IS sales channel (“Operating Unit”), ISBN, title, author, currency, compensation type, and date range you wish to access. If you want the report as an e-mail attachment (if available), choose the format desired (if there is an option for multiple delivery formats) and enter your email address.
